Classroom Standards
There are only three standards of behavior in Room 17. The students and I brainstormed examples of each standard and made a promise to try and follow them them at all times. The standards are:
1. Be respectful.
2. Be responsible.
3. Be your BEST.
Both negative and positive consequences can result from our behavior. We discussed these as well.
Consequences
1. Warning
2. Student/teacher conference.
3. Letter home.
4. Conference with parent and teacher.
5. Severe disruptions (defiance, destructive behavior, fighting) will be sent to the office.
Rewards
1. Class marble jar- class choice (movie, free time, outdoors, small party)
2. Additional free time and games
3. Verbal or written recognition
4. Positive notes home.
It is my personal philosophy that behavior should be intrinsically motivated. I hope to convey to students that they should follow these standards in order to better prepare themselves for learning, and also for the purpose of being a good citizen, person, friend, etc. We will be using the conflict resolution program, “Talk it Out” to work through any problems that may arise in the classroom or on the playground. We will also hold frequent class meetings and other check-ins.
