Hero Project
Duveneck Library Media Center 4th Grade Project
Task - Day Three
After the staff meeting you should accomplish the following:
1. Continue your research and note taking from the My
Hero Website. Type the following URL into the netsite window
or click on the link*:
*Don't forget to use the Back arrow on your browser to
return to this site!
2. Finish your notes on a minimum of four heroes.
3. Discuss with your partner as to which of the four
heroes will be the one you select to write a paragraph about
and design a stamp for.
4. Begin writing your persuasive paragraph. Use
a word processor for your writing. Remember, the audience
you are writing for is the Commemorative Stamp Committee.
Your writing should attempt to persuade all of the members of
the committee that your hero is the most deserving of a commemorative
stamp. Your persuasive paragraph should consist of the
following:
A topic sentence that prepares the reader for the central
idea of the paragraph.
- Example: Princess Diana deserves a commemorative
stamp because of the many contributions she made to people in
need.
A series of supporting sentences follows the
topic sentence, contributing to the central idea.
- Example: Princess Diana worked to stop
the use of land mines in countries around the world.
A concluding sentence is the last sentence in the paragraph,
repeating the central idea.
- Example: There is no one more deserving of a
commemorative stamp than Princess Diana, because she did so much
to help those who were suffering.
5. After you and your partner have finished the rough draft
of your paragraph, proof read it carefully and correct any mistakes
you find. Ask a member from another team to carefully
proof read your paragraph and make suggestions/comments.
Again, correct any errors.
6. Save and print your paragraph -- turn it into the
librarian.
7. Go to check out (if time).
Reminder
Don't forget to bring your materials to each library session
