Goals of the Duveneck Partnership

The strategies outlined in this document have the goal of strengthening and reinforcing the shared goals of both parents and teachers. Specifically, the goals are:

  1. Increasing parent understanding of teachers' roles, responsibilities and professional position
  2. Increasing teacher understanding of parents' perspectives
  3. Promoting positive relationship-building between parents and teachers
  4. Providing parents and teachers with specific steps to take when problems arise
  5. Equipping parents and teachers with communication skills and strategies
  6. Increasing trust between parents and teachers
  7. Creating a better learning environment for our children and a stronger, more resourceful school community

While these goals benefit both parents and teachers, each group has its own perspective. As a result, there are separate sets of ideas and strategies to accomplish these goals. This document focuses solely on ideas for parents. Teachers receive a document with strategies for them and the principal continues to raise these topics at their staff meetings.

The Partnership was created in response to parent and teacher feedback. The 2002 School Site Council Parent Survey also indicated that preserving and enhancing school climate was important to Duveneck parents.
