| Always
keep in mind this guiding principle: classroom websites should reflect
the character and mission of the school. School and classroom
websites are intended:
- To provide classroom
and school information.
- To inform parents
and the community about the curriculum.
- To announce classroom
and school events.
- To showcase classroom
projects.
- To provide relevant
parent education.
The following guidelines
apply to both the classroom and school websites:
- School websites are
for publishing school information.
- No pictures of elementary
students are allowed.
- Students should only
be identified by first names, not last names. Student first names
should only be published with prior parent permission on the PAUSD
Internet Contract. If two students have the same name in a class,
they should be identified by initials, not first name and initial
of last name.
- Student work (writing,
drawings, etc.) similarly should only be published with prior
parent permission on the PAUSD Internet Contract.
- Check with the classroom
teacher to see which students have permission forms on file.
- The principal is responsible
for the school website content.
- Classroom websites
are optional; however teachers are responsible for the content
of their website.
- Links to commercial
sites (like Amazon) should not be made. When deciding if a link
is appropriate, consider the educational value. If the purpose
of the link is to sell something, or provide free advertising
for the company, it should not be placed on the website. The teacher
may select links that he/she believes have educational value to
a unit being taught.
- Website authors should
follow copyright laws for materials and not publish copyrighted
images, music or text on web pages without specific written permission
from the copyright owner.
- No student addresses or phone numbers are allowed.
Duveneck parents have
been invaluable to teachers in creating and maintaining the classroom
websites. It is important to remember that parents helping teachers
should always have the teacher preview work done for a classroom
website before it is published to a District server. Please contact one of
the Duveneck web
masters for questions about any of these guidelines. Also check
this link for District
Website Guidelines for Teachers and Students.
